Motorcyclists urged to wear good earplugs to prevent hearing loss, as new hearing protectors launched

A British company with two decades of experience of designing custom-fit earplugs has launched Auritech Biker Hearing Protectors – what it describes as ‘the most advanced hearing defence ever’.
It claims that unlike traditional foam, wax or silicone earplugs the new Auritech Biker Hearing Protectors contain ‘precision-tuned, patented ceramic filters’. These, it says, ensure maximum protection from dangerous levels of engine, wind and road noise.
“It's a fact that riding motorcycles can damage your hearing,” explained Alexander Duggan, Director, Appia Healthcare Limited. “If you ride for any period of time without hearing protection you are putting yourself at risk, because as time goes by you will eventually suffer hearing damage. Theoretically the bigger the engine, the louder the level of noise generated and the more damaging it will be.
The ‘unique’ frequency-selective filtration process of the new hearing protectors allows conversation, sirens and horns to remain clearly audible, without the muffling effect of conventional earplugs.

Auritech filters are formed with a venture-shaped sound channel from high-grade ceramic material (zirconium oxide) at very high temperature so their internal aperture surface is perfectly smooth. This results in more precise sound attenuation than with plastic filters which have a rough, uneven channel surface.
The silicone-free, hypoallergenic thermoplastic outer construction of Auritech Biker Hearing Protectors are said to make them comfortable to wear for extended periods.
They are said to be suitable for bikers and motorsport enthusiasts of all ages and are re-usable. A cleaning kit is available although Auritech Biker Hearing Protectors can also be washed in warm, soapy water.
Mr Duggan added: “This sort of damage can be anything from a ringing in the ears - Tinnitus, or total hearing loss. Hearing loss is irreparable - it doesn''t heal, it won't get better. And the worst bit is, hearing damage is cumulative, it builds over time, getting worse and worse.”
And with research indicating a link between hearing loss and chronic kidney disease, Alzheimer’s, heart disease and diabetes (including Type 2 diabetes), motorcyclists need to go the extra mile to take care of their health.
