Evoque spurs record year for Jaguar Land Rover with 20 per cent increase in sales
BRITISH-built cars are becoming popular again, as the hugely profitable Jaguar and Land Rover brands sold more cars in 2012 than the previous year, with the 4x4 giant having a record year in the UK.Land Rover sold 54,480 vehicles - up an astonishing 25 per cent on 2011 - and held a 27 per cent share of the 4x4 market. The Range Rover Evoque sold 18,119 units - a sign that incorporating revolutionary safety technology in cars can capture the hearts of drivers and their wallets across the country.
The All New Range Rover is proving popular this year with a large number of pre-orders.The Land Rover Discovery was a runaway success with sales up 7.4 per cent, while the brand's flagship Range Rover sold 4,000. And it seems the manufacturer can only grow stronger. The first deliveries of the All New Range Rover begin this month with many dealers reporting full order books for the next nine months and beyond.
Meanwhile, Jaguar enjoyed increased growth with over 14,000 new cars making it onto Britain's roads. Heading the field was the latest Jaguar XF saloon, with 22 per cent of the market - beating off Mercedes' E-Class and Audi's A6 in terms of sales.
Jeremy Hicks, Jaguar Land Rover UK Managing Director, said: "2012 was a successful year for Jaguar and Land Rover in the UK despite an increasingly competitive market. We look forward to building on this performance in 201' with the introduction of more new products.
"Our car portfolio is becoming stronger each year as we respond to the needs of the market and introduce additional derivatives and engine options as well as all-new vehicles."
The outlook for the coming year looks positive with the launch of the XFR-S saloon and the highly anticipated F-TYPE two-seater sports car. Despite only being shown in public twice, Mr Hicks said UK dealers are reporting a very encouraging start for F-TYPE in terms of interest and deposits taken.
"Both brands are supported by two of the best dealer networks in the UK. This is certainly an exciting time to be leading the Jaguar and Land Rover brands in our home market," Mr Hicks concluded.
