Honda MSX125: the new leisure bike aimed at young riders
IN the 1960s, Japanese motoring giant Honda pioneered small, low-powered motorcycles for the road, introducing the iconic Monkey Z100.Its revolutionary design was said to have been inspired by the World War Two - Welbike -, which some parachutists carried with them to travel quickly behind enemy lines and speed to safety.

So young thrill-seekers will be delighted to hear that Honda today announced it is releasing a part mini-bike, part motorcycle in late Spring. The Thailand-built MSX125 is described by the manufacturer as being "supremely manageable" while also having a "fully-fledged feel".
Driven forward by a small 125cc fuel-injected four-stroke engine, Honda says it handles the road confidently and the styling combines a sense of fun with a tough, urban edge. It has been allegedly improved for greater fuel economy and smoother torque and power delivery.

It features a motorcycle-style four-speed gearbox and clutch so young riders will feel fully connected with the road.
There is a heavy downside in the steel frame. While likely to be strong, it is not the lightweight material for performance that so many bike enthusiasts crave.
But with 12-inch wheels, low-profile tyres and monoshock rear suspension, it appears this is simply a revamped and more stylish version of its predecessors - a cool-looking one at that.
