Liverpool’s Glen Johnson goes green with new Vauxhall Ampera to take him to Anfield

England international Glen Johnson is the latest footballer to take delivery of a state-of-the-art Vauxhall Ampera extended range electric vehicle.
A defender with 49 international caps, Johnson will be driving a top-of-the-range Ampera Electron in Black.
“I am very pleased to be driving a Vauxhall Ampera,” the 28-year-old explained. “The concept of the car really appealed to me and makes it not only ideal for the journey to and from training every day, but also the odd longer journey to St George's Park and back down to London.”
Liverpool’s Johnson joins Everton and England international Phil Jagielka and former Manchester United and England star-turned coach and pundit Gary Neville in getting behind the wheel of the award-winning Vauxhall. England manager Roy Hodgson also drives a Vauxhall, an Insignia Sports Tourer.

The model is well equipped with voice activated sat nav featuring street level mapping for 20 European countries, audio/video DVD player, hard drive device with 30GB music file capacity and Bose ‘Energy Efficient Series’ sound system.
“We are delighted Glen has chosen a Vauxhall Ampera,” explained Duncan Aldred, Vauxhall’s Chairman and Managing Director. “It’s great news another established England international has got behind the wheel of our universally-acclaimed extended range electric vehicle.”
Arriving in showrooms last year, Ampera has a real-world battery range of between 25 to 50 miles, after which a small range-extending generator, powered by a 1.4-litre petrol engine, intervenes to provide up to an additional 300-plus mile range. At all times, the Ampera’s wheels are electrically driven, setting it apart from conventional hybrid vehicles.
Ampera pricing starts at £29,995 on-the-road (including a £5,000 government grant) for the Earth model. The car is available through a network of 24 specialist Vauxhall dealers and is covered by the manufacturer’s ‘Lifetime Warranty’.
