McLaren MP4-28: 2013's most beautiful Formula One challenger

AT a spectacular launch ceremony, Formula One frontrunner McLaren-Mercedes launched its challenger for the upcoming season ? accompanied by a parade of classic cars and the McLaren P1.

While it may look similar - even the same - as last year's car, which was the last McLaren Lewis Hamilton drove in, the MP4-28 is not merely a refinement of the impressive technical advances McLaren made in 2012.

Aiming to win more than the seven races between Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton last season, newcomer Sergio Perez has been given the perfect transformed car to prove his talent - a deep and sweeping re-design of an already successful chassis in several key areas, most notably around the nose and front suspension, the sidepod profiles and the rear bodywork.

In what will be Jenson Button's fourth season with the team, the pairing with Perez provides the perfect combination of experience and youth.

Team Principal Martin Whitmarsh said: "We will once again be targeting both the drivers' and constructors' world championships. The ongoing strength in depth of the organisation, plus the exciting addition of Sergio to the proven package of Jenson gives the whole team strong encouragement and motivation for the year ahead."

In what McLaren have coined as their most exciting year ever, 2013 will see the launch of the McLaren P1, which was unveiled recently and shown at the launch of the Formula One challenger. Its aim: to be the best driver's car in the world, on both road and track.
